Tao Te Ching. Years ago, this guy: Gave me this: I think we had both just finished 'Art of War', and I had just finished reading 'Code of the Samurai', and suggested it to him. He gave me this in return (the pocket version, which I highly recommend). I've used and carried this very small collection of wisdom close to my heart ever since. I've had a rule that no matter what is weighing on me at the time or what I'm going through, I'll pick it up and open to a random page. 99.999% of the time, I can make direct connections to what I'm going through and it helps put thing in perspective. Today was a perfect example, and the reason I will (again) try to carry this with me from now on. I had a great lunch with an amazing person I'm going to be working with a lot in the near future. Shortly after, very sad news that affects him and the projects he has in the works surfaced. Instead of calling him when I heard, (cowardly, I know, but I figured he was busy with people calling with the sad news) I started to email him, opened this tiny book to a random page, and found the perfect passage to quote (at least in my eyes). I can only hope that it helps, not that he needs it. Anyways, that's my 'book club' recommendation for the month. R.I.Paradise to all we've lost recently. You're never forgotten.
